Cookies
1 cup shortening
1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs separated
2 tablespoons water
1-1/2 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup finely chopped chocolate
1/2 cup finely chopped hazelnuts
1-1/2 cups ground roasted hazelnuts
Cream together shortening, sugar, egg yolks, water and vanilla. Gradually stir in flour, salt, chocolate and chopped nuts.
Shape dough into 1-inch balls. Dip balls into unbeaten egg whites, then ground nuts. Place on ungreased baking sheet and bake in 350 F oven for 20 to 25 minutes or until lightly browned.
Makes about 60.
